Separating hard to recycle mixed plastics

Transforming low-value mixed plastic

Impact Recycling have developed a technology to separate hard to recycle, mixed plastics. The Baffled Oscillation Separation System (BOSS) utilises well established technology using only water to accurately sort material by density and buoyancy. Developed and patented in Scotland, the first plant opened in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2018.

New UK PRNS

The first plant utilising BOSS technology transforms low value mixed plastic waste into a 98% pure stream of polyethylene and polypropylene suitable for manufacturing, with over 500 tonnes of the processed material sold on in 2018. Ecosurety purchased new UK PRNs resulting from this first plant for our members, evidence generated from material that was previously incinerated.

Diverting from landfill and incineration

Thanks to an upgrade, thousands of tonnes of plastic will be processed in 2019 at this first plant alone, diverting significant amounts of waste from landfill and incineration whilst producing even more new UK evidence. The UK manufactured system is easily installed at existing reprocessor sites and Ecosurety will continue to support the BOSS technology as it spreads across the global marketplace.
"Transforming low-grade material destined for incineration into a valuable resource for manufacturing, whilst generating new UK recycling evidence is truly impressive. We will continue to support this technology on behalf of our members." James Piper Photo James Piper CEO, Ecosurety
