8 steps to get prepared for the RAM
Knowing how and when to start with the RAM can be confusing and daunting. This article explains how to get started and how to ease the burden on your business.
Introduction
All large packaging producers must use the Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) for household, shipment, and street-binned packaging. RAM outputs must be reported from H1 2025 and will affect EPR costs from 2026. If you’re not familiar with RAM, here are eight tips to get started:
1. Don’t wait – act now!
Our number one piece of advice is to start RAM assessments now — waiting until a submission is due can make gathering and applying the required data extremely difficult. Any RAM outputs you don't report will default to Red, and attract the highest level of modulated fees.
2. Understand the RAM
If you’re new to RAM, read Understand the Recyclability Assessment Methodology (RAM) and our RAM FAQs.
3. Identify the missing information you need
Use the Ecosurety RAM Component Checker to identify missing data - any “I don’t know” response marks a gap in your data to follow up on. You can also read our material-specific RAM articles to understand what information to gather and clarify your packaging’s RAM output.
