Ecosurety recognised for climate leadership with Gold Carbon Literate Organisation status

Ecosurety has been awarded Gold Carbon Literate Organisation (CLO) status by the Carbon Literacy Project.
It recognises our dedication towards tackling climate change, reducing our organisational carbon emissions, and our commitment to working towards a zero-carbon future across our business and the wider packaging sector.
Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.
Only 11% of the 500 plus CLOs have achieved Gold or higher status. Our own Carbon Literacy journey began in 2022, when we set out to ensure our team and our members could make more informed, positive climate decisions.
Since 2023 we’ve developed and delivered our own bespoke Carbon Literacy for the packaging sector training, accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project. We became a Bronze and Silver CLO later that same year.
Empowering action through knowledge

Over 80% of our team are now individually certified as Carbon Literate, and we’ve delivered our training to more than 50 individuals from 40 packaging producer organisations, including some of the largest brands and packaging producers operating in the UK. In this way we’re helping to build a shared understanding of the climate crisis and how the sector can reduce emissions and drive progress toward net zero.
As a direct result of this work, Ecosurety and our team have introduced meaningful carbon-saving actions, including:
- New policies for sustainable business travel, procurement, and meat-free-by-default catering
- A new CO₂e packaging data analytics tool for our members
- Reduced data refreshes and processing, improving energy efficiency
- Over 15 tonnes of CO₂e saved through more sustainable commuting choices
Continuing our commitment

Will Ghali, Ecosurety CEO, commented:
“Achieving Gold CLO status is a significant step forward in Ecosurety’s purpose to accelerate change towards a socially and environmentally sustainable world. By sharing our expertise and supporting practical action, we’re helping our members and the wider industry reduce emissions and deliver on their sustainability goals. It’s been fantastic to see our members embark on their own Carbon Literacy journeys — with some even going on to become trainers themselves and embedding the programme within their own organisations. That ripple effect is exactly what drives lasting, systemic change.”

Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project, said:
“Carbon Literacy is an essential skill, vital to every workplace, community, and place of study. It is the foundational knowledge, and a catalyst to empowering people to act on climate, however, Carbon Literacy is only the first step. The actions taken and pledged by learners as part of their Carbon Literacy have an immediate impact within their organisation, however it is the maintenance of these and further actions, supported by Carbon Literate organisational culture, that reaps the greatest rewards for both participants and their organisations.”
“By becoming a Gold accredited Carbon Literate Organisation, Ecosurety has demonstrated its commitment to genuine low carbon action, environmental and economic impact, and the building of a low carbon future for us all.”
