Net zero
We've set an ambitious target to be net zero before 2030. It won't be easy, but we're committed.
Minimising our climate impact
Net zero means creating a balance between the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. This is critical to combat the climate crisis. The 2016 Paris Agreement states that global net emissions of carbon dioxide need to reach net zero by 2050. This target is used by nations, governments and businesses across the world.
In 2021, we committed to reduce GHG emissions attributable to our business and achieve net zero as a company before 2030. By doing so, we join an accelerated climate action effort championed by the global B Corp community.
This is a natural next step for us. We take full responsibility for the impact our wider business has on the environment, and we will contribute to the 1.5 °C target sooner, rather than later.
For many years we’ve collaborated with our members to reduce the environmental impact of their packaging. But our net zero commitment requires us to maintain a laser focus on ourselves. We must proactively contribute towards the most pressing challenge facing the planet today.
We’re committed to delivering net zero across scopes one, two and three - the emissions of our direct operations, the things we consume and the suppliers we work with. It’s not easy and progress can sometimes be slow, due to business growth.
But we’re working on it. We’re committed and have a dedicated team, driven to make it happen. We transparently share our progress and actively encourage our supply chain to join us.
Let’s do this.

Our net zero journey so far

In 2024, we significantly invested in developing new services to support the rollout of packaging EPR and RAM. Despite our operations expansion, we limited the increase in our CO2e emissions to just 2%. That’s a strong result in a year of growth - and an indication that sustainability is at the heart of how we scale.
We made strong progress on scopes 1 and 2, reporting zero direct emissions, and reducing our energy consumption despite our growing headcount. As a result, our scope 2 emissions fell by 29%. Scope 3 emissions – which we don’t directly control - proved more challenging, with an increase of 3%, due to unprecedented growth of our business and operations.
For us it’s not an excuse, but the reason. Net Zero isn’t easy and we recognise this result is simply not good enough, even if we have grown. We must do more and we’re stepping up to the plate. We may have lost a battle, but not the war.
We remain more committed than ever to fighting the climate crisis.
Our next steps
We’ve identified poor data used in our net zero calculations and we’re taking steps to improve it. We’re also now a Carbon Literate Organisation and will ensure our whole team is Carbon Literate too.
The energy used in our office is shifting to 100% renewable and huge effort is going into improving our scope three, which is made up of our suppliers’ scope one and two emissions.
We now have a preference for suppliers with strong environmental credentials, such as B Corp accreditation, a net zero commitment and access to carbon data. We’re also bringing existing suppliers on the journey, via Carbon Literacy training.
