The new position has been created as Ecosurety steps up its commitment to driving forwards positive change in the resource and recycling sector.

Ecosurety today confirms the appointment of Gareth Morton to Discovery Manager. Working alongside CEO James Piper, Gareth will oversee Ecosurety’s growing portfolio of impact projects that sit outside of the company’s core compliance activities, including recycling awareness programmes such as #InTheLoop and innovative recycling technology Polymet.

Additionally, Gareth will take the lead on the management of Ecosurety’s Exploration Fund – a three year long fund totalling £1mllion which was set up to provide financial support to UK-based innovation or research projects which seek to reduce the environmental impact of packaging, batteries or WEEE. Successful applicants to the 2020 Ecosurety Exploration Fund are due to be announced in December.

The Discovery Manager will strengthen and structure the existing Ecosurety team and ensure that focus on delivering projects that make a tangible positive impact beyond compliance is maintained.

Gareth’s knowledge and experience in the waste, recycling and resource efficiency sectors will play a key role in helping Ecosurety to build on its commitment to deliver change for good; not only for its members and the recycling sector upon which it relies, but also for its wider communities and shared environment.

Gareth will also work across the company to ensure that all Ecosurety’s projects align with its wider commitment to improve education, innovation, collaboration and infrastructure across the UK’s recycling sector.

Commitment to deliver positive change

James Piper, CEO of Ecosurety commented "Our vision when creating the position of Discovery Manager was to find someone who could help Ecosurety build on our commitment to deliver positive change outside of our recycling compliance commitments."

"Gareth’s extensive experience in the waste and resource efficiency sectors, his passion for recycling, and understanding of how to use campaigns to incite positive behaviour change marked him out as the perfect candidate for the role. We are delighted Gareth is joining the Ecosurety team and welcome him on board."

Gareth Morton commented "I’m very excited to be joining Ecosurety at a time when the industry is about to enter a time of considerable change. In joining the team, I can combine my passion for recycling with my behavioural change expertise and broad industry experience to make a positive difference."

This appointment coms five months after Ecosurety became B Corp certified, joining a growing global network of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.
